Impressions on jQuery Mobile
Apr 1210For the uninitiated, jQuery Mobile is a sweet little client framework that turns regular HTML into something more touch and mobile friendly. It results in a user interface that has bigger targets, rounded corners and simple skinning capability. When it was announced that ASP.NET MVC 4 would include support for a mobile-sensitive view engine, offering up alternate views for clients that fit the mobile profile, I was all over that. Combined with jQuery Mobile, it brought a chance to do some ex...

Writing a Recipe for ASP.NET MVC 4 Developer Preview
Sep 1122NOTE: This blog post covers features in a pre-release product, ASP.NET MVC 4 Developer Preview. You’ll see we call out those two words a lot to cover our butt. The specifics about the feature will change and this post will become out-dated. You’ve been warned. All good recipes call for a significant amount of garlic. Introduction Last week I spoke at the //BUILD conference on building mobile web applications with ASP.NET MVC 4. In the talk, I demonstrated a recipe I wrote that automates...

Sep 1115Unless you are living under a rock, you have probably heard that two days ago, at Build, Microsoft unveiled the new version of Windows, named Windows 8. Windows 8 This is revolutionary both from the consumers’ and developers’ perspectives. The UI is deeply based on the concept of the tiles of Windows Phone 7.5 “mango” and the Metro design language, and the API are now allowing applications to be written either in C#/C++ and the usual .NET/Win32, or using WinRT, basically an Object Oriented v...

7 books for a .NET Summer reading list (2011 version)
Sep 1112In the previous years “n books for a .NET Summer reading list” used to be the title of the book list post. Now, in the last of my 4 posts with books suggestions I am back to the original title. In my introductory post I said I would have listed only a few web development on .NET books. In fact there are only 2. Web Development on .NET Professional ASP.NET MVC 3 While Professional ASP.NET MVC v2 was mainly an update of the original professional MVC1 book, the third remake, due to the nature o...

Introducing ASP.NET MVC 3 Tools Update
Apr 1112Today at Mix, Scott Guthrie announced an update to the ASP.NET MVC 3 we’re calling the ASP.NET MVC 3 Tools Update. You can install it via Web PI or download the installer by going to the download details page. Check out the release notes as well for more details. Notice the emphasis on calling it a Tools Update? The reason for that is simple. This only updates the tooling for ASP.NET MVC 3 and not the runtime. There are no changes to System.Web.Mvc.dll or any of its other assemblies that shi...
